It is raining and completely gray outside my window right now. This weather reminds me of a series of photos I started a couple of years ago on an overcast day on the salt flats of the Great Salt Lake. I have been inspired to explore this area for years after reading books by author and naturalist Terry Tempest Williams. I asked my model (friend and sister) to wear light colored clothing with the intention of photographing her enveloped in a vast landscape. But as the day went on I found myself moving in closer to the subject and adjusting the camera to overexpose —allowing only the most important information to remain. The result is light and ethereal.
