What is more lovely, than an Hermes scarf? The patterns and color palettes are classic and when worn with confidence never go out of style. I was recently invited to look over a few fabulous designs from the late 1980s. Anne purchased these lovelies in NYC and Paris to wear with her Armani business suits. Since that time they have been sitting in their little iconic orange boxes waiting for just the right moment. Tissue weight, paper thin modal and silk blend scarves, have been a big trend the last few seasons, and scarves are everywhere this spring. Square scarves (Hermes 90cm square) at first blush may seem like a bit of a challenge due to their size but truly are the perfect accessory. We love rolling a scarf into the desired width and wearing it as a summer headband or wrapping one onto the shoulder strap of a spring handbag. They also work well as a belt on a solid dress or as a neck tie with a button down shirt. The 140 cm Hermes scarves ( I would sleep in mine and never take it off-if I had one!) can be worn as a cover up at the beach or as a halter top. They are stunning in scale, design and richness of color....in fact they ARE the outfit. The main point here is that each of us probably has a lovely silk scarf that we inherited or purchased that never sees the light of day... perhaps we think it is for a special occasion? I've also seen Hermes scarves placed on the wall in a frame and Hermes offers a magnet hanging system on their site. However, these scarves are at their best worn as they were intended adding high style to a pair of jeans, a white t-shirt and worn as the works of art they truly are!

New designs can be found at Hermes stores or on their website. For vintage finds look on etsy, ebay and in vintage clothing stores. I recently discovered a new vintage designer site called What Goes Around Comes Around that has a selection of scarves as well as other high quality vintage accessories. No matter where you buy your vintage Hermes read up on the use of the © symbol to authenticate before you purchase. If you are really lucky perhaps your mother or grandmother has one or two stashed at the back of their closet that they are no longer interested in!
